Netflix’s popular series Black Mirror has stepped into the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the introduction of “Smile Club,” a multifaceted digital experience. 

Inspired by the iconic “Nosedive” episode from Season 3, which delves into the perils of society’s obsession with validation, particularly through social media, the experience represents a collaboration between Animoca Brands’ subsidiary Pixelynx and Banijay Brands.

The digital collectibles at the center of the project grant holders exclusive experiences and rewards.

Minted on the Base blockchain, the initial release features two main NFTs — the Smile Pass and Smile ID. The former, which is a premium collectible that grants unlimited access to Smile Club, while the latter, which is a free collectible that offers limited access, does not. The Smile Pass is already sold out. However, the Smile ID has only just begun minting.

These NFTs allow holders to enter the Smile Club where they can participate in activities such as character creation, completing missions, and earning points. The points they earn contribute to their social score, which unlocks various rewards.

The ultimate aim is for the project’s evolution into a comprehensive, digital platform. This will give fans the chance to explore Black Mirror from a completely new perspective. The Smile Club project anticipates a variety of releases and experiences.

While this marks Black Mirror’s inaugural entry into the NFT space, the series has previously ventured into the metaverse.
