A distinguished private collector splashed out a staggering 5,000 Ethereum (approximately $14.6 million) for a complete set ten Autoglyphs NFTs.

According to NFT brokerage platform Fountain.xyz, which facilitated the sale, the transaction took place on February 19, 2024. This DealsThis is the largest NFT art purchase since 2022, and the fifth largest on-chain purchase.

While few details about the collector are available, reports suggest they have a background of collecting analog art forms that align with the Autoglyphs. Reports revealed that the collector intends to exhibit the artworks in institutions and museums.

Autoglyphs was released by Larva Labs in 2019, the creators of CryptoPunks. It is the first generative artwork on the Ethereum blockchain. Autoglyphs is made up of 512 unique works of art that are unalterable and free of royalties. Autoglyphs is unlike many NFTs that rely on off-chain storage. It has everything within the blockchain.

The recently acquired piece is part of a developer set curated by Larva Labs’ co-founders Matt Hall & John Watkinson. It is one of seven complete sets. This only adds to the rarity and value of the artwork.

Before this sale, ‘Old School Collection’ had purchased the set for only $1.4 Million in February 2021. This shows that the value of the artwork has increased over the years.

The recent acquisition marks a significant milestone for Autoglyphs. It has already made $50 million in secondary sales, and exhibited in prominent venues such as Centre Pompidou, and Sotheby’s.

The record-breaking sale for $14.6m of an Autoglyphs complete set underscores the growing importance and value of NFTs in the art world.
